What's the 2× distance rule?
Aeroplan prices partner awards by distance — so a single award can only cover up to twice the nonstop distancebetween where you start and where you end up. Toronto to Miami is 1,990 km nonstop, so one award stretches to about 3,980 km of flying: connect through Atlanta (2,150 km) and you're well inside the limit, but detour through Los Angeles (7,257 km) and the routing breaks the rule.
